We had a very good time with the DTS students. They were engaged in the learning process and found it a valuable time (Stewardship: Finances, Time, Possessions, Health and the Environment). We also got to know one another quite well and that was really nice. We shared a lot about our lives and the principles that God has taught us through different experiences.
In the beginning of the week we felt like we were on somewhat of a holiday, we even were taken to Victory Park and Red Square on Monday! The Moscow Metro (beautiful architecture, the longest escalator in the world and masses of people!) is definitely an experience and we traveled it several times. By the end of the week we were visiting with several staff and doing some pastoral care which is always a necessity for missionaries, especially with some of the challenges of living in Russia! It has been a team of Brazilians who pioneered the Moscow work and it was really special to see how they are relating to and raising up the Russians involved. It was also very interesting for the Brazilians with their very difficult Catholic/Protestant history to get a different view of Catholics through us. God uses interesting ways to promote His call to unity!
A highlight for both us and for the students and staff was a visit (almost two hours travel each way) to the Missionary Sisters of Charity (Mother Teresa's order) who are running a house for homeless and alcoholics. It was a new experience for the students and for us it was again a blessing to interact with these dear sisters who are so committed to Jesus and to serving the poorest of the poor.
